Privacy
Your matcha collection stays on your device and in your own iCloud. Tama doesn't use accounts, ads or tracking, and we can't see your collection. The app sends anonymous usage counts, which you can turn off.
What Tama keeps
Your tins, bowls, recipes, ratings, notes and tin photos are stored on your device. If iCloud is on, Tama syncs them through your own private iCloud account, so they're on your other devices too. Apple stores that data; we don't have access to it.
Photos and the camera
When you add a photo of a tin, Tama cuts the tin out of the picture on your device. The photo is kept with your data and isn't uploaded anywhere else. Tama only asks for the camera when you choose to take a photo.
Notifications
Reminders, like the one that tells you the water has cooled, are scheduled on your device. They're optional.
Purchases
Tama+ is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we receive no payment details and no personal information from it.
Usage counts
To see which parts of Tama get used, the app sends a short signal to TelemetryDeck, based in Germany, when you finish onboarding, add a tin, start or finish the brew timer, log a bowl, complete a character in Learn, open Tama+, or buy or restore it. A signal says what happened, with details from a fixed list, such as the brew style or whether a tin has a photo. It never includes names, notes, recipes, ratings or photos.
Each signal also carries the app version, the device model, the iOS version and your language and region settings. In place of an identifier, it carries a one-way hash of the code Apple gives Tama for your device, so devices can be counted without knowing whose they are. There's no account or name to connect it to.
To stop sending usage counts, turn off Share anonymous usage in Tama's Settings.
What Tama doesn't do
- No account or sign-up.
- No advertising, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
- No selling or sharing of data.
This website
This site sets no cookies and runs no advertising scripts. It's hosted on Cloudflare, which processes basic request information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
To see which pages are read and how people find them, the site counts visits with TelemetryDeck, based in Germany, using a short script of our own that you can read in the page source. When you open a page, it sends the page address, the site that linked you here, your browser language, any campaign tag in the link, a rough screen size and whether you're seeing the site in light or dark. It also notes a few things you press: the Appearance button, links to other sites, the App Store link, the RSS feed, and whether the release-updates form went through. Your email address is never part of it.
We send no cookies or identifiers. TelemetryDeck works out a visitor number from the request address and browser information, combined with a value that changes every day, so today's visit isn't connected to tomorrow's.
Press to turn them off or back on. The choice is kept in this browser only. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, analytics are already off.
Email updates
If you sign up for email updates, your email address is kept by Kit (kit.com), the service that sends them. We use it only to send occasional news about Tama. You confirm the address before anything is sent, and every email has a link to unsubscribe, which removes you from the list.
Deleting your data
Deleting a tin, bowl or recipe in Tama removes it from your devices and your iCloud. To remove everything, delete the app and, if you use iCloud, delete Tama's data in your device's iCloud settings.
